Child-centered, play-based learning is a whole-child educational approach that promotes academic, socio-emotional, and cognitive development through free play, which can also involve guided play by an adult. In guided play, teachers enhance children's exploration and learning with helpful guidance while being careful not to be invasive in the children's play. https://lnkd.in/gF-GTbiq

Revolutionizing Early Literacy: The Power of Explicit Systematic Phonics in Our New AppIām Alana, an expert teacher and literacy specialist with a deep passion for explicit systematic phonics. Along with a dedicated team, Iāve developed an innovative app designed to help children master reading and spelling by focusing on the foundational building blocks of literacy. Our app is uniqueānot just because itās gamified, but because it addresses a critical gap in existing educational tools.Explicit systematic phonics is a research-backed approach that breaks down reading into manageable components, ensuring students grasp each fundamental skill before progressing. This method equips children with the ability to decode words confidently, laying a strong foundation for all future learning. Iāve seen firsthand how this approach transforms studentsā reading abilities and contributes to their overall academic success. As we approach 2025, Iām committed to advocating for explicit systematic phonics as a daily practice in schools, with 25 minutes dedicated each day to this crucial instruction. By embedding this approach into the curriculum, we can ensure that every child has the support they need to become proficient readers, setting them up for long-term success and a lifelong love of learning.Iām excited to continue this journey and work towards a future where all students receive the best possible literacy education.#EducationInnovation #ExplicitPhonics #SystematicPhonics #LiteracyDevelopment #ReadingInstruction #EdTech #FutureOfEducation #ChildLiteracy #EducationReform

How does the brain learn? According to "How People Learn," there are three steps to solving a problem or creating something new. - First, we activate what we already know.- Secondly, we develop the depth of our skill base.- And finally, we use metacognition to reflect on our process and outcomes to close the loop on our learning. Metacognition is āthinking about thinking,ā allowing us to zoom out and reflect on the learning that is happening in a big-picture way. Among our students, we promote metacognition by asking questions like:- What did I know to solve this problem? - What strategies helped me solve this problem? - How did I know they would work?- Did my approach work?- Did I achieve the results I expected? This research is applicable to learning anything new, whether it is an instrument, a sport, the reading process, or content area concepts. In this case, we are using it to explore second-language learning. Because learning and teaching are inextricably linked, it should be no surprise that educational research has yielded components of Effective Instruction that can map onto learning processes for optimal outcomes among students.https://lnkd.in/gFEW2_6KMaya Valencia Goodall, M.Ed, M.A., Kristie Shelley, M. I agreeāthe brain is our most valuable asset, and nurturing it is essential for lifelong growth and success. , the brain thrives on stimulation and challenges. By promoting cognitive development we can enhance our mental abilities, improve memory, and sharpen our focus. Cultivating the brain through targeted cognitive exercises lays the foundations for enriching our personal lives and also helps us adapt to an ever-changing world, fostering resilience and creativity. Investing in brain health is, in essence, an investment in our overall well-being and potential.

In case you missed it, here is a link to a post from this week . . . Our classroom, every day, should be one big experiment, a place where things are not known by either the kids or the teachers, a place where we fiddle and argue and poke and prod our way toward knowledge, and where everything we come to understand is only a part of all the other things we're striving to know.It should be a place with lots of room for failure, frustration, and conflict. It should be a place with lots of room for wonder, epiphany, and friendship. . . . And play is the mechanism through which children connect, listen, and strive to understand. It is our education instinct made manifest. Whether you are just starting out as a play-based educator, are a veteran of play, or are a parent/caregiver interested in providing children a playful childhood, please consider joining the very first cohort for Teacher Tom's Play-Based Learning. This is my 6-week foundational course on my popular play-based pedagogy, designed to make you think deeply about the role you play in the lives of children, and give you the inspiration, insight and tools needed to create an environment of genuine play for the children in your life. I can't wait to share it with you! For more information and to register, click here: https://lnkd.in/gN9GWEZY
