Critics Consensus

Though Little Fires Everywhere at times plays it too safe, sparks fly when it lets well-matched leads Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon dig into the difficult questions it does dare to ask.

Little Fires Everywhere: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Megan McCluskey TIME Magazine ...tensions within the all-too-polished community begin to escalate... May 24, 2023 Full Review Little Fires Everywhere: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Trimble Bitch Media In the end, the show does more than make room for a shift in Elena's worldview. It also registers just how much this sliver of hope has cost the more marginalized others in her life. Mar 16, 2021 Full Review Little Fires Everywhere: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Melinda Houston Sydney Morning Herald The cast here is fantastic (the kids are unbelievably good) and it's packed with clever detail. Rated: 4/5 Jun 8, 2020 Full Review Little Fires Everywhere: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Serena Seghedoni Loud and Clear Reviews Little Fires Everywhere tackles motherhood, identity and terrible life choices through complex, compelling characters that are neither good nor bad, but somewhere in between. Rated: 4.5/5 Oct 22, 2023 Full Review Little Fires Everywhere: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Daniel Seddon NME (New Musical Express) There are fireworks here, but the peripheral characters and their unravelling lives are the ones that are more likely to stay with you. Pamela H This is 8 episodes of misery, but it was so gripping. The acting is tremendous. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/07/24 Full Review Robyn H Loved Little Fires Everywhere! Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/13/23 Full Review R Z The first episode had some clichés that made me doubt it was going to be any good. How many times have we seen a show/movie introduce a kid with the "I'm a vegetarian" speech? But once the show sets up everything, it's nonstop drama (in a good way). Every character gets thrown into an emotional blender. Everyone has a problem that boils to the surface. I liked it, but it seems like every time I like something the RT reviews are the opposite lol. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review andy h Idk how well it matches up to the novel, but I know it evoked all of the emotions and thoughts that it's supposed to and then some. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Though I think I understand the motivation for changing characters and plot arcs, I prefer the book which is messier and left me more ambivalent. Nevertheless, the series is more thoughtful and engaging about real things than most television options out there. If you are looking for a thoughtful drama about parenting, particularly motherhood, privilege, unconscious biases, and class this would be your thing. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Ng made some changes with the producers for this production, but nevertheless, like the book, it remains an emotional conundrum and an important avenue for revealing unavoidable truths.
