Washington High School Af ter graduation she attended Portland Community College in Portland Ore She came to Alaska 23 years ago Over the years she worked as a waitress and cook She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and also a member of the Eagles She enjoyed flowers and collect ing dolls According to her family was a loving and giving person who enjoyed helping Ms McCracken is sur vived by her daughter Alice Robinson of Victoria BC daughter JoAnn Kalandros of Winooski Vt son Roy Allen of Oregon City Ore 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren Arrangements for the fam ily were made by Palmer Mortuary foreign countries and listen ing to opera and Irish ballads His family said Irish wit will be missed by all whose lives he touched He was a true Irishman in every sense of the He is survived by his wife Elna Diaz daughter Deirdre mother Johanna brothers Patrick Raymond and Colin sister Pauline Putake grand son Kenny and good friends Bob McMillen Len Shapiro George Sullivan Kevin Mc Carthy Mickey Gridley and many others Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Soci ety Arrangements were made by Palm Mortuary in Las Ve gas WALTER THOMAS BARRY Walter Thomas Barry 61 died Jan 23 1997 in his Las Vegas home A wake is scheduled for 2 pm Sunday eb 9 at the Woodshed Lounge 535 Third Ave He will be buried in New Cemetery Cobh Ire land Mr Barry was born May 29 1935 in Cobh Ireland He attended Presentation Brothers College in Cobh and the Radio Institute in Tivoli Ireland Mr Barry also served in the US Army Mr Barry moved to An chorage in December 1970 where he was employed as a sales manager at Totem Ocean Trailer Express from 1975 1992 rom 1993 until his death he worked as a con sultant for Carr Gottstein oods He loved golf traveling to basis stood in line waiting for a booth or seat at the counter during meal Mrs Hepler belonged to many organizations including the Eagles Moose Heart and Pythian Sisters Her family said: was full of peace joy happiness and love unafraid and ready to enter the kingdom of God Knowing she was soon to leave our world to be with her blessed Lord Jesus Thelma asked us to miss her but let her go faced her battle with cancer courageously and with more strength than her family ever realized she they said Mrs Hepler is survived by her son Vaughan Kruger and his wife Carol of Seattle granddaughter Vonja daugh ter Judy and first cousins Don York and wife Sally and Betty Murdock and husband Hershal and many friends In lieu of flowers her wish was for memorial donations to be sent to any branch of the American Cancer Society or Medic One in Seattle Arrangements were made by Bleitz uneral Home in' Seattle ROBERT STEVENS ormer Alaska resident Robert Stevens 59 died Jan 26 1997 in Sallisaw Okla A service is scheduled for 2 pm riday at Cavalry Temple ull Gospel Church in Sallisaw The Rev Jack McLaughlin will officiate Mr Stevens was born Aug 12 1937 in Newton Iowa He lived in Alaska from 1963 to 1990 He was em ployed as a welder and jet en gine mechanic for the US Coast Guard Mr Stevens is survived by his sons and daughters Robert Sherree and Carrie all of lorida his step chil dren Larry Stevens Linda Dorman Tina Clark and Ani ta and Sheila Hale several grandchildren his sister Wilma McCalman of Salli saw and numerous other rel atives and friends many of whom live in Wasilla and he was quick to share his love of the river and zest for life He hked to hunt fish and run the Kenai River As an of ficer Pappy was a fixture on ourth Avenue foot patrol during the late 1970s and ear ly 1980s He was known for his compassion and no non sense attitude which gained him the respect of fellow offi cers and citizens alike His sense of humor genuine sense of caring passionate loyalty to his friends and love of his family will be remem bered and missed by He was preceded in death by his son Ronald Becker II Mr Becker is survived by his wife Carlene Becker of Soldotna daughters Cindy Linguist of Anchorage and Carla Culbreth of Anchorage son Donald Hoadley of Shelby Mont six grandchil dren and several nieces and nephews The family asks that memorial home on Jan 27 1997 A memorial service for Ms McCracken is scheduled for 11 am Saturday at the Wasilla Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints 901 Bogard Road in Wasil la Ms McCracken was born on Jan 18 1918 in Pocatello Idaho to Sam and Ethel Quin lin Handsaker She attended schools in CHARLES CAMERON ormer Anchorage resi dent Charles Cam eron 77 died Jan 26 1997 in Escondido Calif At Mr request no funeral will be held Mr Cameron was born in Anchorage on June 24 1919 He attended grade school in Anchorage and high school in Seward He served in the US Navy during World War II and af terward returned to Anchor age where he resumed his job as an engineer for the Alaska Railroad He retired from the railroad in 1972 after 32 years of service He and his wife Thelma moved to southern California where they built a home and started an avocado farm will be remembered by his many friends in An said his family one who had a love of the out doors hunting and flying in his airplane He and Thelma built a couple of cabins on lakes across the Inlet from Anchorage where they en joyed the great outdoors sun sets and Mr Cameron was a mem ber of the Anchorage Sports Association and An chorage Elks Lodge as well as an organization represent ing railroad engineers An ac complished downhill skier he also enjoyed playing golf and driving his Corvettes He is survived by his wife of 51 in Cape Beaufort She was a homemaker who had been the secretary for the airbanks Native Associ ation She enjoyed knitting crocheting and gardening In 1996 she received the Neighborhood Beautification Award will be remembered as a loving wife mother and to her grandchildren She was outgoing honest generous and direct Her sense of humor and honesty will be remembered by everyone she her family said years which in cluded river combat tours in Vietnam He left the Navy to seek a job in law enforce ment and worked for the Palmer Police Department from 1976 77 before being hired on the Anchorage Po lice Department He from APD in 1989 His family stated: retirement his home Kenai River was a gathering place for friends and family THELMA HEPLER ormer Alaskan Thelma Hepler 74 died Dec 29 1996 at her Seattle resi dence with her son and daughter by her side At her re quest no for mal funeral will be held A small service was held in her honor at the Schwa backer House a senior hous ing facility where she resided Her daughter brought her ashes home to Anchorage and will spread them over Sleeping Lady this summer Mrs Hepler was born Dec 15 1922 in Brainerd Minn She arrived in Alaska in 1953 with her son and daugh ter and returned to Seattle in 1974 She was a professional cook and restaurant owner in Seattle and Anchorage Her family said: was the best catering to the working men who on a
